Transue's Home Runs Helps Hofstra Earn Split With #24 LSU
Hempstead, N.Y. – Freshman Michaela Transue hit her first two career home runs, including a three-run blast in the sixth inning of the second contest, to help the Pride earn a doubleheader split against Louisiana State University on Wednesday night at Hofstra Softball Stadium.
Hofstra fell in the first game, 5-2, before notching a 5-3 victory in the second game. The Pride improved to 23-11 while LSU moved to 25-19. The Tigers, who are 24th in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball national poll, were the first ranked opponents to play the Pride in Hempstead since No. 9 Arizona in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
Transue entered the day with one career RBI but smacked a two-run shot in the first game before delivering a three-run homer run in the sixth inning of the nightcap for a five-RBI total effort.
LSU scored in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. But the bottom-third of Hofstra’s order ensured the Pride posted a come-from-behind win for the third time in the last five games in the sixth inning or later. Fellow freshman and seventh-hitter Lacey Clark singled to left and sophomore Caryn Bailey drew a walk against LSU starter Baylee Corbello. Transue then pulled the three-run shot over the left-centerfield wall for a 5-3 edge.
