The Conklin Raiders 18u Gold softball team won their first 3 games in the winners bracket at the PGF National Qualifier held in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and by the end of the weekend, earned a birth to the national tournament held in Huntington Beach, California, in late July.
The tournament began Saturday, and the Raiders won both games, 4-1 over Team Long Island and a 3-2 come from behind victoy over th Connectict Charmers. On Sunday, the Raiders defeated the Morris County Belles 4-3, before getting mercied by the Florida Power 10-0. To qualify, the black and silver broke a 2-2 tie over the New Jersey Cheetahs in the top of the 7th and went on for a 3-2 victory!
Four teams qualified for the trip to California, out of the 32 that began the weekend tournament.
The Conklin Raiders are the first team from New York to ever qualify in the highest level of softball competiiton, the PGF Nationals!
This trip to California was not anticipated and the costs of this opportunity were not included in this year's budget.
